How do I care for my Handmade Nature Jewelry?

One of the best ways to care for your handmade sterling silver jewelry or handmade bronze jewelry is to simply wear it often!

A wonderful feature of nature inspired jewelry is that it is rich with organic textures and shapes. This can make it hard to polish with conventional silver polish, however artisan jewelry is not like typical jewelry in that it is intended to have that handmade, warm, organic patina feel to it.

Wearing your pieces often is the best way to care for them and prevent tarnishing. However various air conditions and natural elements can affect the lustre of bronze and sterling silver over time.

As needed, clean your pieces gently and effectively by making a paste with baking soda and lemon juice and gently applying it with your fingertips, rubbing in small circular motions, then pat dry and polish with a soft cloth. Bronze in particular enjoys being polished.

Step 1. Make a simple paste the consistency of toothpaste from baking soda and lemon juice

Step 2. Gently coat the piece in this paste, massaging it in with your fingertips

Step 3. Leave the piece to soak for approximately 10 minutes.

Step 4. Rinse in lukewarm water

Step 5. Pat dry and polish with a soft cotton cloth

Repeat as necessary to obtain the level of shine you desire.

When you are not wearing your silver or bronze jewelry, it is best to store it in a small airtight container to preserve the level of oxidization you love.

Oxidized silver jewelry sets itself apart from traditional jewelry, and with just a little bit of care and attention, it will bring you years of delight!
